Intro
Saurophaganax(lizard-eating master) was possibly the largest Jurassic predator of all time, probably even larger than Torvosaurus. It terrorised North America about 151 million years ago and was a match even for Allosaurus.
Appearance
Saurophaganax was nearly 13 metres long and weighed about 5 tons, making it the dominant predator in its area. It's size was its main weapon. This came especially handy when scavenging since it could frighten off smaller predators, but it could hunt. Anyway, Saurophaganax was an efficient hunter, possibly even more than Allosaurus.
Diet
Saurophaganax, due to it's size, could tackle very large prey indeed. Large sauropods like Diplodocus and stegosaurs like Stegosaurus would probably be no problem for it. However, some people think Saurophaganax moved slower than most therapods and they think it leaned more towards scavenging than actual hunting. This makes sense because Saurophaganax's size probably allowed it to frighten smaller predators. However, it probably could kill, since there is no animal today that lives only be scavenging.
Saurophaganax was large, but that meant there was a smaller number of these dinosaurs than smaller therapods like Allosaurus. This is because a larger body means more food to fuel it, and so Saurophaganax numbers were small because they needed to adapt to their food sources.
